New Directions, Vantage Point Retirement Living’s exclusive memory care program, offers those with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias a totally new perspective on memory care. The program focuses on evidence-and research-based programming that is backed by an understanding, consistent and supportive team.
New Directions is provided within The Compass Memory Care neighborhoods, which are specially designed to provide safe, secure environments that promote a sense of belonging and purpose.
“Discover a New Direction in Memory Care” is the motto we live by, with foundational principles that guide us every day.
DIGNITY
Maintinaing a resident’s dignity is central to evevrything we do.
INDIVIDUALIZED
Recognizing that every resident is on their own unique journey, our care and programs are specifically tailored to their cognitive abilities and strengths.
SPACE & PACE
The extent of participation in activities and daily life at the community are unique to every resident. What works for one resident may not work for another.
CHOICE
Here we embrace and respect every resident’s freedom of choice, especially when the answer is ‘no.’ When offered choice, residents feel empowered, respected and valued.
OPPORTUNITY
Each day is an opportunity for residents to still do the things they love.
VALUE
All residents deserve to feel they add value to the daily lives around them — in the lives of fellow residents, team members, and loved ones.
EXPERIENCES
We don’t offer activities…we offer experiences designed to give each day meaning.
RESPECT
We respect the wishes and feelings of residents and loved ones at all times.

From the time you walk through our doors, you’ll experience a community that is thoughtfully designed through every inch. Nonverbal communication plays a significant role in every part of the resident experience.
Our neighborhoods are designed to directly reduce the strength and frequency of symptoms attributed to Alzheimer’s, such as agitation and anxiety.
COLOR PSYCHOLOGY
Color can influence perceptions that are not obvious, such as the taste of food, or recognition of being in a familiar location
- Red and yellow plates are used in our dining rooms to stimulate the appetite and add contrast.
- Colored accent walls throughout the neighborhood provide nonverbal cues as to where a resident is within their community.
DIRECTIONAL CUES
- Directional guides are built into the neighborhood décor and architectural design to provide external cues for our residents to assist them in navigating the neighborhood.
- The design of indiviual apartments with cues such as unique porches, lanterns, and siding will help residents in identifying their apartments.
- The neighborhood is designed to reduce agitation and increase engagement by having a straight hallway with alcoves to the side, instead of in direct line of sight. In providing for our residents they will feel more comfortable in navigating the neighborhood
LIGHT THERAPY
-
Light therapy is utilized to mimic natural daylight to help in maintaining healthy circadian rhythms (or sleep patterns).

…or lack thereof! Residents chart their own course.
Every day is as unique as the fingerprints of our residents. Our approach to our programming provides residents with an engaging and meaningful activity program specifically tailored to their cognitive abilities and strengths.
Our innovative approach is personalized based on specific needs and includes everything from proper nutrition and a general fitness program to sensory stimulation exercises, recreational outings and time for learning and
cultural activities.
It’s something we like to call
“structured fluidity” where we build programming that will benefit residents’ holistic wellness, but offer choice and honor individuality.

In The Compass Memory Care, family is the foundation of everything we do. As part of a family-owned organization, these values extend from how we hire and train our team members, to how we engage with residents and support their loved ones. It’s the thread that connects every fiber of life in the neighborhood.
Our New Directions program reflects the culmination of over 25 years of passion & experience in memory care. Each detail of daily experience for our residents has been thoughtfully developed to elicit the highest quality of life, no matter where they may be in their journey through memory loss.
Here, we believe that when team members and loved ones work together, the highest quality of life is achieved for residents. As one unit, these three components create a family-like support system that enable each individual to thrive, excel, and to do their best for each other – just like family.

Coping with memory loss is one of the hardest things you’ll ever experience, whether the sufferer or the family member. Days can be challenging and exhausting, and they will still be at times even when your loved one moves to our community. But days will also be rewarding and fulfilling.
Here, we don’t believe in sharing our philosophy with rose colored glasses. Memory impairment is very real, very challenging, very hard, but also very rewarding… we can only strive to provide you and your loved one with more good days than bad days.
We're Committed To:
- TRANSPARENCY AND BEING YOUR LOVED ONE’S ADVOCATE.
- MAKING SURE CAREGIVERS RECEIVE THE SUPPORT THEY NEED.
- IMPROVING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN RESIDENTS AND LOVED ONES.
- BEING THE BEST WE CAN BE, SO WE CAN BE THE BEST FOR THOSE WE SERVE.
